Check out http://www.adivs.com. This site lists free directories sorted by pagerank. If you are looking for more quality links, then once at adivs.com I would submit to the sites that have a pagerank of 4 or higher. addurl.nu is another good one.

I would recommend using a tool like SEO Godfather.
It helps improve your ranking and gives you a better chance at being seen on the search engines.
I used it for my site and started seeing results in about 1 week.
