How much does it cost to launch a website?
I’m interested in starting my own blog, but want to have the option to advertise. I will need my own website as opposed to wordpress or other free services.
I’m in the process of hiring a professional to develop and design my site, but I want to have a benchmark rate to compare against.
The work includes:
1. Purchasing domain name
2. Set up hosting
3. Design site – simple site including following functions:
- categories, search, text / image boxes, header, ad placement areas
4. Launch site – I will maintain/ upload new content daily
I live in Vancouver, Canada, if that makes any difference.
Any help will be much appreciated! Thanks in advance :)

1. $10 – $15 a year
2. $20 – $100 a year depending on what you get and where you get it from
3. Depends on how much the developer charges, probably a few hundred dollars.
well i’ve seen a couple of websites and most of them said around 20 bucks a month it could be more or less
123-reg.co.uk can be 2.99 for domain

It’s a great website. I think it’s a year free..
I use GoDaddy to buy domain names – about $9 a year or so.
For low volume site, try DayanaHost.com – start at $10 year (yes, year) and up, depending on data amount and traffic.
As to design, that all depends on what you’re having done and the skill/experience of the designer.
There are plenty of free hosters who give you a domain and there are plenty of premade layouts for free on the web.

Hey Teresa from Vancouver, Canada
1) Purchasing a domain can cost between $6-$10 a year.
2) Web Hosting can cost you anywhere from $4.95 to $12.95 a month, some even more expensive…all depends on what features you want added to your site.
3) Website Design: custom designs can run you up from a few hundred dollars to as high as $2000 a template
4) Maintenance will only cost you your time
Here are some simple useful tips: domain and hosting are recurring so expect to pay monthly or yearly. When hiring a professional ask to see their portfolio (websites they’ve built) and pricing. Maintenance, how easy or user friendly will it be to maintain your own website…will you need to know coding, programming, html or more.
Hope that helps and answers your question…
