I'm scared I'll never get a job (business/marketing/editing)?
I’m in college, I’m intelligent, 4.0 G.P.A… but that really means nothing when it comes to finding a job. I know, get an internship lined up, I’m working on that. But what else can increase my chances of getting a job after college? The web search engines for jobs such as Monster.com are so full of spam and unrealistic opportunities that it’s ridiculous. What steps can I take now to ensure that I can get a job upon graduation which is 2 years from now? I’m a Business/Marketing Major with an English Minor… was thinking about becoming a Copywriter at an Ad Agency, but those are so few and far between. I really am willing to work hard, I feel I’m different from my peers. What steps can I take to prove it to the employers? What’s a good way to find a job?

4.0 really does mean something when it comes to getting a job. If you graduate cumme sum laude, employers take that into consideration greatly. but i say go for your masters, these days just a bachelors doesnt seem like enough. also, you have two years left so join clubs/groups like a frat or sorority, those have huge networking. most actually see that you get jobs
Create a web site showcasing your work. Include this URL on your resume. That is the best way to differentiate yourself; showing what you can really do.
You have AMAZING skills. I have those exact same skills and have been busy with work for the past 5 years. You need to team up your marketing/copy-writing skills with web-designers. There are many of them who can’t write at all.
Another thing you can learn how to do Search Engine Optimization. It’s a huge business that utilizes your skills. I could go on forever but I’m hoping you take a quick look at the business and see what I mean.
The bottom line is…there are a ton of people looking for skills like yours. You just have to meet the right people and not waste your team with "cheap" jobs or cheap people. GOODLUCK and feel free to IM me or something.
a person of your intelligence and drive should go inot business for herself. Read something by Kiyosaki, Bach, or Orman.
Do something different then what everyone else would do. You want to be a copywriter? What are the local newspapers in your area? Where do you want to live after college? Are you on the paper now, that is expirence that can go on a resume. See if you can get an intership, that would be the best. You can also check with your couselor or student advisor, most of the time they are working closely with job searchers in the area, to help locate jobs for the students. Also, look at your local department of Labor. They definitely will know who is hiring. Good Luck! And nice job on the grades!
