Should I join the military at age 26?
I am an American who turns 26 this July. I have a BS in Marketing and a MBA in International Business from a university in London, England. I run a small Search Engine Marketing company that does decently. But I’ve reached a point in my life where I just don’t know what I’m doing. I’m not satisfied with what I’m doing or where I am right now and I can’t seem to find motivation for anything lately.
I am in good physical shape and I have always had it in the back of my mind to maybe join the military but never went through with it. Is there anybody that has had a similar experience that could share their thoughts. Also, which branch would be best to enter if I went through with it?
BTW, my family would absolutely freak out.

why not? your thinking about it. dont be 46 and saying wow i could be retired from the army now..why didnt i join. Now would be the time. People are joining much older than you. I dont see how it would be a bad thing
Sure, why not? You only live once.
talk to your family about it, research what you’ll be doing in the military. look over everything pro/cons and if its still something you wanna do then GO FOR IT
Any branch of service is a good branch, but make sure they have an MOS that relates to your previous job. Tlka to a recruiter, your degrees make you an officer immiediately
The first thing I have to say is don’t worry about what your family think , you have to do what you want before you are happy after all you are 26.
If you join the Army and it is what you want to do and not just whim go for it. Speak to the army an seek advise and find what they have to offer that you feel would suit you. No one can suggest what you should do because you have to want it for YOURSELF to be content. Think hard before you decide as it is your future you are considering. Good luck.
I would say, no. My Dad was a Marine during Nam and we were talking
about this last year when I was 29 and he was saying that 29 would be cosidered pretty much ‘over the hill’ as far as joining the military. I would’ve agreed with this even if he hadn’t of told me. Even when it comes to playing in the NFL, I’m already 5-6 years away from the avg age most players call it a career, so even in pro football I would be considered ‘over the hill’ or pretty d@mn close to it. I turn 31 Aug 29.

If you want to keep your company, enlist in the Guard or Reserves so your training period is shorter. If you want to go all out, try to enlist into a officer commissioning program in the active Army. The training cycle is a lot longer for officers than it is for enlisted soldiers.
Go for it.
I think there is an age limit so if you want to join, do it now! Who cares what your family thinks. Seriously LIVE YOUR LIFE. You’re 26 years old! An adult! geez……
Don’t worry about what your family says, it is up to you. If you always had it in the back of your mind do it before you are too old, you will end up regretting it. I went thru something similar, I did not join straight after high school, my family wanted me to continue school, which I did, but it almost bothered me like I was missing something, so I basically said f it and joined. Now I am finished with my time and got out, I do not regret it and I enjoyed the experience, saw and participated in a lot of interesting things, got a lot of good rewards, met a lot of new people, and I will no longer have that in the back of my head that says I was missing something.
Heh.. I’m enlisting at 31 if that makes you feel any better. I have a degree in EE, married with kids, and make well over 6 figure. Everyone thought I had gone crazy except for my manager at work. She happens to be a Lt. Commander in the Navy and immediately tried to convince me to join and be in her unit. I am choosing to go into the reserves though because I do want to keep my job and be around my family (I’m not completely crazy). One thing I learned is that the branches are pretty competitive. I thought the Army recruiter was going to reach across the phone and strangle me when I let him know that I’m going with the Navy so if you are exploring different branches, you might want to keep that on the down low. The Army and Navy has the most mos/rating/jobs/career/whatever you want to call it available.
I have some coworkers that were in the army and they pretty much said that going in with a degree and being older that its a guarantee that they are going to make me platoon leader in basic and get picked on and yelled at more than anyone else. I can deal with that (at least I think I can).
I went in and took that asvab and am just trying to decide between a few different ratings.
I’ve been in the tech industry for over 10 years and I want to do something different for a while. I can get fired for taking a sabbatical, but not for serving in the military (well, I suppose they could, but they’re so entrenched in government contracts that it would be a poor business decision). I’ve been feeling unmotivated as well. I think life has got too soft for me. While I was at work, I sat in front of a computer for the ten thousandth time, I thought "anywhere is better than this," that’s when I decided to enlist.
I am 26 as well, actually going on 27, this summer. I have BS in biochemistry and MBA in Finance. I have a good job, family, but my career is not what i want it to be, not challenging, not secured, etc. So I joined the army. Y? For the challenge, for them to pay back my student loans from my MBA, for me to have a career that constantly requires my undivided attention to excel at it. As far as for you, at your age, you will seem like a sore thumb in the Marines, the navy, if you have a family is a no go. So that really only leaves the Army and the Air Force. With Your BS you could enter as an officer in the army and request for finance or if you want they are always looking for recruiters. There are other jobs as well that you could qualify for depending on how you score in officer school. I would review the air force and army websites and look at jobs and see which ones sound the most interesting.
