I have a recruiting company called General Placement Service. We have a website (www.generalplacement.com) that was written in ColdFusion, which is a very expensive program. We currently have a third-party website manager but it is a pain getting him to make changes. We would like to do the work ourselves.

I would like to transfer the content into another program so I am able to make website changes myself but need a program that is ‘user friendly’. The website is pretty basic and contains a database of jobs that we post, the ability to submit a resume document and some basic text content.

What are my options for programs?

Is asp.net recommended?
You don’t like what? The website?

Right hears my problem, i am applying for placements and i have a well formatted CV and most jobs that i apply to are online were u copy and paste your CV into a large input box, when i copy mine because its all in tables the formatting goes to pot! so i was thinking of uploading the CV and putting a link to the .doc file in the input box. i need to find a website what looks professional and were potential employers can simply click the link and open the .doc state away with out going through validation like rapid shear, mega upload etc.

Thanks

Daniel

I recently finished my B.tech in CS in India, I did not get selected in on-campus placements. What is the best way to apply for jobs. Will posting resumes in different companies’ website going to help? Or is there any other efficient way to apply?

Hi,
Im 18…almost 19, and I dont have that much work experience.
I am currently trying to save up to travel Europe (or as much of it that I can), as I know that whilst travelling you learn a lot about yourself and develop in so many ways, so It would be perfect and smart for me to do this. (once I come back, I should know what I want to do (hopefully)).

However…I need a job to do this! I have just left my job as there were some serious personal problems there which I wont go into. I was there for a total of 3 months, and it was as bar staff; this included, waitressing, working behind the bar, and sometimes cloakroom. Sometimes it was challenging, but most of all I found it fun!
I also have 2 weeks work experience in office based work at the DTI, where I did general office duties; answering phones, faxing, admin, data entry, arranging mettings, etc.
As well as another 2 week work placement for a Yacht Magazine (which required extensive research for me as I knew NOTHING about yachts), here I had to proofread, write articles which I then submitted onto the companies website, as well as data entry and research.

To be honest…I’m not sure what to do! All I know is…my goal is to travel. How I get the money, Im not sure. Do I do bar work which I enjoy and gain tips? Do I work again in office work, so I have a foot in the working ladder for when i return (as I want an officey based job when I come back). Or do I go straight to working abroad and travelling whilst I earn with one of those ‘work abroad schemes’? I also have a very strong interest in writing and I have an A level In English Literature, however I dont know if theres any jobs I can do with this or if it would even be of use. I have NO idea, and no idea how to go about it!

Please help, or offer me ANY advice. Truth be told, I just want to travel and get money asap for it.

Since February of this year, I have gone through a handful of jobs and lately its seemed kind of suspicious to me. The first was a car sales job. I was suspicious about this from the start as the company took over 0 out of my check for "training". About a month in, I made my first big sale and brought the company close to K profit on one vehicle. My commission was around 0. The day after, I got caught in some traffic on the way to work and tried to call the office 3 times; no answer. I was less than 5 minutes late and was fired on the spot. The 11 others hired the same month are now all gone as well. Next, I found work at another dealership. I applied as a salesperson, but they asked me if I would do internet marketing instead. I agreed. They said I would receive per customer that I coaxed to come in and per sale. By the end of 3 weeks, I had only received about 5-7 customers and only 2 came in. So, I had to quit. Then, I was hired by Portrait Innovations, who seemed more impressed by my experience in used car sales than photography. They had me fill out more tax paperwork (through the mail) than I had ever done. I was refused training for 3 days and then fired. This was a huge shock to me as one of the managers had complimented me on how innovative I was at posing kids. No one ever even gave me a reason. I currently work at a book store, where I initially applied for a salary position and (instead) was asked to come on as a p/t employee. Last week, I sent some ideas of mine through the company website. 2 would help increase sales and 1 would increase sanitation and prevent waste. The next day, I received a document stating I was at risk of being terminated. Is it likely that the tax breaks associated w/ HIRE are causing companies to take a quick hire/fire approach w/ job seekers? Does my being a veteran mean they would receive even greater tax breaks? Has anyone else experienced this since January of this year?

I have been looking for work intensely for months. I have sent my resume out to every organization I want to work with, over 42, by mail. I have e-mailed and mailed my cover letter and resume to every job ad i am qualified for and ones I am not qualified for. I have started a website, I have started a twitter account to follow the organizations that I want to work with and they just say things like "Good luck with your application"…that is not helping me network! I am taking initaitve and it is not being recognized!!

Then, my friend, got a call for a position where 1)I am more qualified, 2) I have a contact there that I e-mail almost weekly to see if there are any openings, and I work for them seasonally and am good with her, 3) His cover letter and resume were total crap!

His cover letter was unprofessional and not in business format. It started with Dear Prospective Employer: ….and my volunteer jobs that I did free of charge.

No date. Arrogance. No professionalism.

His resume also listed things he did in high school, which have little relevance. A student placement. And one relief position.

It listed his high school.

Where my resume and cover letter are mint! I have had all my previous supervisors review and edit it for me and I am convinced it is gold.

How could his crap cover letter and resume get him a job, much less get him the interview? Has anyone else heard of this happening?

also, what jobs are similar to physiotherapy? like in the health and social care/ hospital careers that i can research into?

i read on a career website today that there are very few jobs in physiotherapy. this has really upset me as i thought it was the right career for me. i still think it is but i don’t want to spend years training for some career if there is no placement for me at the end of it. right?

does anyone know if this is the case and what i can do about it? is it worth my while going into physiotherapy? or should i research similar carers that there is more of a demand for?

my career lessons start at school in the next few weeks but the career teacher is not very useful unless you are 100% sure about your career and im clearly not.

any advice would really help!

thanks

i’m a university student applying for jobs for my placement/internship year.

my question is: Is it ever ok to start a letter with Dear Sir/Madam?

i’m applying for a job back in my home country but the business’ website does not have a career section so i can’t find the name of their human resource manager; and its way to expensive to make international calls.

also, i’m applying to more than one company so that would just make it even more impossibe to make international calls.

How can i address this letter??

Thanks!!

i found a new job and gave two weeks notice at my present job, and i’ve been working part-time at the new job around my old schedule in the meantime. well, today i logged on to the same website i found this new job at, and i saw an opening for the same position, same qualifications, and same weird schedule as the job i was just hired for. the difference is that the posting says to contact a job placement agency for further info and the one i responded to had the name of the actual employer and the contact email to send resumes to. it’s also the same type of business. these are too many similarities for it to be a coincidence, right??? i’m totally being replaced after only a few days of working part-time there? i thought i was doing well though!!! what do you think?
also, the receptionist at the new job is there through the same temp agency that was given as a contact
same exact pay range!!!
p.s. i still browse jobs because i’d like to have a second job, not because i’m already thinking of replacing the new job i just found.
