If you look at market share of search engine in world, Google has ~45% while Yahoo has ~22% share. MSN, Ask.com, AOL, Mamma.com etc. follow. According, to MB survey, Google has more than 70% mind share in India and Yahoo search has around 22%. Google boxes are seen everywhere, because Google provides incentives to the publishers. What are people at Yahoo doing? How long will they take to make YPN available for the general public. Similarly, managers at MSN too seem to be relaxing. Be dynamic, otherwise Google will bite you hard.

In the early days of the www as we know it, how did Google take market share away from competitors like Yahoo!, Lycos, Web-crawler, Alta Vista, Netscape, Mamma, Ask Jeeves, etc etc. I’m sure there are several more. Seems that many offer several of the same hits – so how did Google emerge as leader?
Also are there any other search engines not as well heard of that offer any unique features as an alternative?
