CNET & LA Times stating ms Bing taking 30% of al usa searches?
I smell dishonesty.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/technology/2011/04/microsofts-bing-took-30-share-of-us-web-search-market-in-march.html

People simply aren’t talking about or using Microsoft Bing period.

I personally see no reason to switch to Bing.

The CNET and LA Times stating that Bing just took 30% of all USA searches.

The statcounter also says Google still has 80% of all searches in USA.

http://gs.statcounter.com/#search_engine-US-daily-20110410-20110412-bar

What on earth is going on here?

thanks, experts @ Y! Answers

I am in the middle of a homework assignment and i have been thrown off by a secondary page. What is that? I am def lost now. Here is the whole assignment so you can get a better idea by what I mean. My instructor is not online and this is due tonight. I dont want you to do my homework I am just asking someone to expalin this to me.

•Resource: Project Proposal
•Build from your Week Two Project Proposal.
•Visualize the page design for your site by creating two different page layouts for the home page and a secondary page.
•Identify the placement of headings, navigation, text areas, images, etc.
•Submit both layouts. This may be accomplished using Microsoft® Word program, PowerPoint® program, Visio® software, or Adobe® Photoshop® software under Assignments link

I already have my website thing ready to go just need to know what the secondary page is.

I have windows 7 and my Firefox has been invaded with bing, and I go to add-ons and there is bing and a search helper. I disable them, but i find no way to remove/uninstall this unwanted infection.

I read in the news that bing continues to grab market share, well no doubt, it is a forced download infection, bing is not increasing its market share… I did not have Bing in any of the web browsers search engines, I do not use Live, I do not use Microsoft for the web, I use Google Chrome, and Firefox.

I do not have Bing toolbar listed in my programs to remove, how do i get rid of this infection. Maybe the best way is to junk this computer and buy a Linux computer from Dell, or a new Mac. I am just about had it with Microsoft’s heavy hand spying and continued story telling to the press an investors.

What is the outlook on Yahoo, I am thinking that they are ok being #2 to Google, it may be risky as Google may be flying too high now or maybe not. Thinking being #2 for Yahoo is still a good thing, purchasing stock which seems in a trough now (close to 52 wk low) with intro of VOIP and other revenues from ads, would this not be a safe 3-5 year investment? Also in order to buy MSN we must purchase Microsoft stock, which does not reflect the true performance of the MSN search engine but the whole MS corp.

I’m thinking that Yahoo can’t lose, but fear I’m missing something, I think they’ve had the crap scared out of them by Google and may be mounting some exciting things to fight back, if Google is 0, why would it be unrealistic to think that Yahoo should be worth at least half of that or if Google is inflated by double it would still stand to reason that Yahoo could climb to half of the deflated Google price and wind up at . Will Yahoo likely make sustainable profit?
Yes I saw the same article about googles market share++ BUT Yahoo stilll has MILLIONS of users, also the numbers are scewed, you have to compare europe/Asia/NA Yahoo’s market share seems to be better in NA and the Google ++ mkt share seems to reflect Europe. I think there is nothing wrong with Being #2 like Yahoo, it is still a VERY poswerful position to be in, I’m thinking of sinking -60K into the stock and need to know what the dark side may look like. Like I said, it seems to be in the safe part of the trough, but I’m know there are some aspect I’m not aware of … specifically concerned with their VOIP play, they could STEAL a large market share if they are quicker to market with the product.

Microsoft is offerein 44.6 billion DOLLARS (US) and change, PLUS stock to buy out YAHOO!, umm why to get of competion.
Read on.. Microsoft Corp. has pounced on slumping Internet icon Yahoo Inc. with an unsolicited takeover offer of .6 billion in its boldest bid yet to challenge Google Inc.’s dominance of the lucrative online search and advertising markets. Well, THANK YOU (ahead of time) Mr. Gates for screwing this Search Engine up (It’ll be a peice of crap like MSN.. slow searches, bad results, I always have guessed that Microsoft filtered out any competion because the results from Yahoo and MSN are VERY different) The what about out Yahoo! mail accounts??? They will be slow and awkard and not the most user friendly… just like Hotmail after Microsoft bought them out.*&^%#$^!! So where to next? Nothing that money can not get rid of if they don’t want you around I guess. Goodbye Yahoo! It’s been great sorry your about to be ground up in the Giant Microsoft Planet Killing Machine.

If any Indian software professional wants to sell patents of his algorithm or product on Natural Language Based Product like parser, search engine or word processor in US or Europe how much generally the software companies pay for a patent developed by an Individual outside their organization. I am not asking about the price paid by giants like IBM or Microsoft but general or average price. And what is the market potential for these patents?

is microsoft publisher 2007 a good choice for building websites?
anyone built one using it?

if yes, how can i make publisher to assign the same formatting for the header, the fonts and the placement of the navigation bar to all, say, 7 pages? I’d like to have the navigation bar appear at an exact location on all 7 pages, not look like shorter, longer, different, etc, from page to page.

some programs have formated pages, but they are very limited in scope and just little could be changed while using their templates.

is serif a good choice? have heard it has a confusing interface.
how about good web hosting, not flakes, but good ones….

thank you, guys

Hello everyone, past the known facts that google has an awesome search engine, gmail, maps and other online accessories, can it take over microsoft which is 85 billion dollars bigger, has 25 billion in cash and is extremely more diversified?

I am on the side for Microsoft. In under 2 years they already have 11% of the searching market through Bing, that’s alot considering google has 60% and thats mostly their entire company.

Microsoft also pays dividends, is extremely more diversified and is worth more. The p/e of google is 40x, and the p/e of microsoft is 20x. that means that every dollar you put into msft is worth 50% more than google because you are paying half as much for the shares which is more stable.

Microsoft has a much more diversified company and I belive that with all the computer companies and microsfot itself, google is going to have an extremely hard time competing with such a structured, liquid, flexible and powerful company such as microsoft.

Yahoo, Ask, Apple, Hp, Dell and others will not just bow down to google taking over the computer industry, they will fight back.

Some people say Bill gates can just walk away and take his 50 billion with him, although the google owners can do the same. The main 2 owners of google have close to 50 billion so it willl have the same effect if they ever left.

I am obviously on the side of microsoft and I have many more arguments supporting this, what is your take?

Google have a much more popular Search Engine and are on the verge of releasing a rival OS, Google Chrome OS. They are a company of vast resources who can really give Microsoft a run for their money.

On the other hand Apple have always enjoyed a decent share of the PC market (15%) and are on the verge of releasing a home console to rival the Xbox 360, one which will apparently download all games directly to the console’s hard drive.

It seems Microsoft is being attacked from all sides at the moment.

I know most people’s viewpoints and I know who has more return on investment, capital and the company which is microsoft.

I like the fact that microsoft does not advertise every little idea they come out with, and how diversified they truly are.

Although I feel like Google has taken advatage of a new age and Microsoft is not going to go down without a fight, they have been playing catch-up in new ideas for the past 2 years now though.

Microsoft is also 90 billion dollars bigger, roughly, Bing is catching up and in only a year has 10 % of the search market, they have windows 7 which is awesome and they have a huge cash reserve.

Now I know that everyone is saying google but why? other than using their search enging they are clueless. Microsoft can put major resoruces into search engine and get it down. Bing may surpass google’s search engine, it already has 10% of the market!

Over the LONG TERM GIVE ME FACTS on why one would be better than the other. No opnions, no speculations.

THANKS

This morning started playing a stock market game as practice to get used to the stock market and how it works. However, I don’t get why HUGE multi billion dollar companies like COCA-COLA or MICROSOFT need a stock market. Even GOOGLE, being a search engine holds very high stocks. Why is this necessary?

Thanks in advance. I know it’s a very elemental question but I know nothing about economics.

Microsoft and Yahoo combined forces to create the bing.com search engine to provide a tougher competition in the market =P

Especially since 65% of people use google alone !

Have you tried bing.com? I really like it… its cool !
