I am about to launch my new website in 4 days and I was wondering what are the most effective ways to get users/visitors without spending marketing dollars?
Things I have on my list:
1- SEO (search engine optimization): Title, Meta tags, descriptions
etc.
2- Addthis.com button to share it on other websites
3- "How my website works" on youtube plus keywords there.
What are other ways to quickly get visitors?
Also in terms of selling banner ads on my website, how many visitors do I need to get in order to do this? Even if I get enough how do I have to approach companies to advertise on my website. Lets say I want to put only 1 banner on my website for advertising (exclusive), how do I have to negotiate the price for this? Is it based on the number of users ?
Thanks very much.
The Mac vs. PC debate annoys me because a Mac "is" a PC, and I’ve seen that ad dozens of times the last time being just today. A PC is a Personal Computer. It would be like having a comparison between a BMW and a car. Both are cars, and both could be BMW’s. It’s just marketing hype. Companies do this all the time, the most recent example being the Bing ads that claim Bing is not a search engine but a "decision engine".
It’s the oldest marketing trick in the book, to claim that your product is something entirely different from others when in fact there are only minor differences well within the standard deviation. By that, I mean that all products in a category are unique in some way but not to the extent that they cease belonging in that category. People usually have the sense to realize that yes, a BMW is a car, and Bing is, in fact a search engine. I have yet to hear someone call Bing a "decision engine", and when I do I’ll have to try real hard not to punch them in the face. Why is it that people don’t understand that a Mac is just a different brand of PC? Maybe because the acronym for Personal Computer is meaningless by itself and PC now means anything but a Mac?
Where can I find the answers to the "Reviewing Integrated Mathematics for Stuyvestant High School Placement Exam" book? I searched their website but still couldn’t find the answers.
I’m looking for marketing suggestions to attract customers to my golf league management website (I won’t list the site so I’m not accused of spamming). I have an Adwords account, I’ve gotten great rankings with keywords like "Golf League Management" (usually #1 or 2) on Yahoo and Live.com, and within the top 10 on Google. I’ve also posted to golf blogs and directories.
Golf leagues are so seasonal that I basically have a 2-3 month window each year to get new customers. They trickle in by finding it through the search engines, but obviously I’d like to maximize this as much as possible.
I’ve been considering dropping by some golf courses and trying to give a quick unsolicited pitch to whoever’s behind the counter in the golf pro shop, but I’m not sure how this will go over.
Any other suggestions out there? I’ve gotten great feedback from the leagues that are using it, but how do I convince others that it offers much more than they can do with an individual software program?
I have a website, http://www.wealthsearch.org that offers dozens of free articles on creating wealth, as well as analysis of some popular "creating wealth" business models. So far raffic has been decent, but I would like to see a significant increase in visitors. I’m working to update and add material almost daily, but could use some ideas. Thanks in advance.
I have no idea how much time it takes to write a blog versus creating, maintaining, and editing it (keeping up with and implementing the latest developments in internet technology and the blogosphere). My friend says he has 10 years of experience with web development and could provide all of the "internet marketing, e-commerce, blogging, search engine optimization, web application development, social networking, social media optimization, graphic design, interface design, copywriting, etc." He proposed splitting the profits from ads, affiliate links, etc. 50/50 and letting me keep 100% of the profits I get from referrals for my private counseling business, but 50/50 feels too high. What do you think is a reasonable percentage split of profits? Would you recommend splitting profits, or having some other business model (flat fee, hourly pay, etc.)? And any suggestions on how to fashion a prearranged buyout agreement in case we decide to split ways in the future so I can retain the site?
SEO-newbie question, to get a sense of what fraction of the ‘market" for a given longtail keyword (say, from one month’s search) should land on a website that has a first page search engine ranking for that term. 20%? 80%? Are the top five results almost guaranteed to be clicked through? Etc.
Background: About 6 years ago I was doing a pretty extensive job search, and was contacted back by a "recruiter" who requested my resume. I sent it in but never heard back, even when I called to follow up.
Roughly a year later, so 5 years ago, I had started and then closed a business and was job-searching again. As I googled around to see if there were any new ways to put together a professional resume, any new trends etc, I clicked a link and was slapped in the face when my OWN RESUME appeared on the site owned by "Professional Resume Writers."
Seems they place ads for employment, obtain resumes from innocent job-seeking applicants, then turn around to re-sell the stolen resumes to their "clients."
I don’t know if that’s ok or not ok in the legal sense, but I had written mine and I didn’t want them selling it.
So I contacted the business and requested that they remove my resume from their website. They ignored me, so after the third request (phone message and email), I reported them to the Better Business Bureau and other types of similar online business complaint services.
At that point, the business owners came UNGLUED and wrote several dozen pages of miscellaneous slanderous rhetoric about me which they are now broadcasting all over the Internet.
Their extensive posting of misinformation about me is pretty much evidence (to me anyway) that they were in fact guilty of stealing other people’s original work. Guess I hit a nerve.
They easily obtained my employer’s name, my home address, my phone info, and other personal data and proceeded to blast articles everywhere that I was a dishonest business person, that I was "deranged", that people should steer clear of doing business with me, etc etc etc.
This has caused so much stress for me that in addition to having to change jobs and change phone numbers, I actually was compelled to legally change my name. When you google my old name, because of the wording, the meta tags, and the search engine placement these people have utilized; it appears as though I’m untrustworthy, crazy, and even a criminal.
They even have my photo and contact information up on a website that they themselves maintain, that lists all of the slander they are posting about me.
Is there anything I can do about this? How can they be using my photo?
Plain & Simple:
1. I want to create my own search engine.
2. I want to custom-brand the search engine.
3. Yes, in other words, I want to create my own "Yahoo!" or Google.
4. I am not interested in hearing your views regarding market dominance and how it interferes with the feasibility of this project.
5. I do not want the Google custom search module on my site, as it is NOT custom branded AND it limits my searches to the Google world.
Everybody, I want to thank you all for your answers. I’ve gotten some really useful input from some of you. Please, keep the answers coming, I think this is a question that many people are interested in.
My fiancee has 7 years experience in high school teaching in the Chicago suburbs. Unfortunately, she was let go just one year short of being tenured. Aside from careerbuilder, hotjobs, and monster, are there any other websites specific to jobs in education in the Chicagoland area (suburbs not city of Chicago)? Any placement companies that work with educators at finding jobs? It seems an uphill battle to go on each school districts website to see if they are hiring. Are there any "clearinghouses" where you can submit your credentials and generic application and that will be forwarded to multiple districts?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
When I make a blog post I want the post title and the url of the post to appear in the search results. Right now when I make a post the main blog title and the blog url is the only thing coming up in the search results.
Example
I want it to look like this: www.xxxxxxxxx.com/post-title.html
this is what is shows now: www.xxxxxxx.com
Also I want the post title to be the main title in the search
Example:
My blogs title is GGG Marketing
I want it to show in the search engines as:
Post title| GGG Marketing
This will help my seo ranking for the specific keywords. I cannot figure out why its not coming up in the search engine this way. I am using pingomatic for each post and within 1 hour the post is live. But it says the main title instead of the post title.
I’m using this code now:
<b:include data=’blog’ name=’all-head-content’/>
<b:if cond=’data:blog.pageType == "index"’><title><data:blog.title/></title><b:else/><title><data:blog.pageName/> | <data:blog.title/></title></b:if>
Can someone please help me
Hi, I need help with getting my YouTube video on the first page of results for the keyword "haiti". I’m not talking about the first page of google or any search engine, I simply mean YouTube’s search results. What advice do you have for me so that I may receive placement on YouTube’s first page of search results for the keyterm "haiti"? Thank you very much for everything.
